I’m an authorised marriage celebrant and MC! But that’s only part of the story…
A celebrant (but also a lawyer). I’ve been a lawyer for about 5 years now (which meant the legal/documents side of getting people married came easily)! Doing weddings part time means I am lucky enough to be able to take on a smaller number of bookings, which means I can bring lots of energy to each one and spend more time personalising the ceremony in a way that perfectly suits the couple.
Why do I do this? When people ask me why I became a celebrant, a few things come to mind. I remember doing my best friend’s maid of honour speech back in 2019, after which a number of people came up to me afterwards and said it was one of the best wedding speeches they had ever heard! But like many things in life, it took a few years for the penny to drop and realise that writing, storytelling and public speaking were things that all came naturally to me. It wasn’t until I was asked to get qualified for a friend’s wedding that I thought “that might not be such a crazy idea”, and things just went from there!
Bringing each love story to life. I love the process of bringing a story to life in a way that perfectly matches each couple’s vibe and energy. The feedback I get is usually along the lines of ‘you captured who we are perfectly’ or ‘you just got us’ and that makes me feel pretty great.
Getting a drink and having fun! I also love the planning process and just having a good time with you to be quite honest! Grabbing drinks or dinner with you to hear your story and plan the ceremony is one of the best things about this job. Recently a client left a review and said ‘do yourself a favour and book Alice, drink with her and laugh with her’ and to be honest - I wholeheartedly agree - just book me and let’s start having fun together!
Music is key. Music is one of the most important parts of a ceremony. In addition to the writing, helping with and reading your vows, I love finding out new music when you send me your favourite tunes for the ceremony.
Vibes. And at the end of the day, it’s all about the vibe - I’m here to help kick off your big day with lots of energy, love and laughter. I’m a weirdo who actually likes public speaking, so I’m ready to make things relaxed, natural and lots of fun. Picture me as the organised, fun person on the mic who will make sure everything runs smoothly and that you have the best time possible during the ceremony and into the night!
